chasingKIMBIA is a blogumentary that documents the lifestyle and training of some of the world's best marathon runners. In the fall of 2006 Matt Taylor lived with the athletes in their Boulder, Colorado apartment as they prepared for the Chicago and New York City marathons. The daily coverage was unprecedented for athletes of this caliber. Taylor's unrestricted access allowed him to provide a personal touch and a unique perspective into the lives of these otherwise super-human athletes.
Building off the success of Season One, Season Two of chasingKIMBIA took you to the athlete's training camp in Iten, Kenya. Overlooking the Rift Valley from the escarpment above, the athletes train in one of the most picturesque settings in the world. The Rift Valley also produces the greatest concentration of world-class distance runners.
Season Three takes us back to Boulder as the athletes prepare for the Chicago and New York City Marathons. You'll meet some new athletes this season, including up-and-coming American Fasil Bizuneh. He'll be training alongside the NYC group as he prepares for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, which take place in Central Park on November 3rd, the day before the regular NYC Marathon. You'll also remember some old faces, like Baba, James Koskei, and Evans Rutto. Follow the journey as these athletes train under the direction of Coach Dieter Hogen. Daily coverage, including blog entries, photos, and the video blog, provide a backstage pass to the lifestyle and training of these elite marathoners. Learn about the culture, get to know their personalities, and understand the sacrifices they make to be the best.
chasingKIMBIA is brought to you by KIMbia Athletics and New Balance. In the fall of 2005, Matt Taylor created and produced his first blogumentary - chasingTRADITION - which documented the 2005 NCAA cross country season. He spent one week at eleven different colleges recording the lifestyle and training of some of the country's best distance running programs. In 2006 he teamed up with KIMbia Athletics co-founder, Tom Ratcliffe, to produce the first season of chasingKIMBIA. Continuing with the "chasing" theme, Taylor is currently working with Toni Reavis on chasingGLORY, a seven week blogumentary showcasing the contenders for the men's Olympic Marathon Trials.
KIMbia Athletics, founded by Tom Ratcliffe and Dieter Hogen, concentrates on long distance track events, cross country, and road racing, with a special emphasis on the marathon. KIMbia is the Swahili word meaning "to run." The selection of this name is both an acknowledgement of the impact Kenyan runners have had on international athletics, as well as serving to continue the legacy of the late Kim McDonald. His name as well as his philosophy live on at KIMbia Athletics.
